Livin' the dream!
In 2012, 13-year-old Mia decided to convince her mom, Gennie, to open a business.
This may seem a little weird- who just starts a business because their teenage daughter thinks it's a good idea? Well, Mia knew since she was 5 that she wanted to be a chef, and that line of vision has never changed. She's always been more than a little ambitious, and had previously attempted to start a few of her own business (to no avail). But this one was a little different. This was something Mia and Gennie could do together, it was fun, and they got to eat lots of extra cupcakes as an added bonus.
5 years later, Mia went off to Hyde Park, New York to get her career as a chef started at the prestigious Culinary Institute of America. From there, we broadened our horizons to offer even more delicious treats as she made her way through the program. In December of 2017, we announced that Mia would be starting an internship at the Four Seasons Resort Hualalai in Kona, Hawaii, and we needed our customers' help! We did a Christmas bake sale, which was more successful than we could ever anticipate (thank you again, everyone!). With this extra money, Mia was able to live her dream on the island for 15 weeks and learn the culture of their food, as well as how to create high-production desserts.
On December 19th, 2018, Mia became a culinary school graduate! From there, she went on to work in fine dining in San Francisco. After COVID-19 caused the unfortunate closing of her restaurant, she came back to Massachusetts and put her passion back where it all began. One day, she hopes to open Sugar Rush as a chain of beautiful, high-end bake shops! But as of right now, Sugar Rush is still an online-based, order-and-delivery business, just like we started out!
We can't thank our customers enough for making this all possible, and we can't wait for what the future holds!
